Geoff Duke OBE, affectionately nicknamed by his many Italian fans as "Il Duca di Ferro" ("The Iron Duke"), is a true legend of motorcycle racing, who won the premier 500cc MotoGP World Championship in 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1955 and won the 350cc championship in 1951 and 1952. He was pioneer of the sport and invented, with the help of his local tailor Frank Barker, the first-ever custom, skin-tight one-piece leather racing suit.
In 1951, Geoff was named the Sportsman of the Year, which served as an early equivalent to today's BBC Sports Personality of the Year and at the famous Isle of Man TT races, he secured six race victories and made the Isle of Man his home following his illustrious career.
In 1953, He was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to motorcycle racing, even before much of his greatest successes and this sweatshirt celebrates his incredible career on two-wheels. Featuring a superb, signed back-printed design that illustrates Geoff in full flow aboard the 500cc Gilera at Solitude in 1954 and a front print of the Lancashire Rose, paying homage to his place of birth, St Helens.
