  • Round six of the 1991 World Bike GP Championship at Hockenheim featured a truly breathtaking battle for supremacy in the 500cc class and Wayne Rainey (Marlboro Yamaha) and Kevin Schwantz (Lucky Strike Suzuki) took the race down to the wire as they pushed themselves and their mighty two-stroke machines to the absolute limit!

On the final lap with only a few corners left to make his move, Schwantz made a spectacular late-braking pass on Rainey to take the lead and the race win.

Schwantz was later famously quoted as saying that he had to “See God, then brake”, such was the level of bravery and faith required to make such an audacious overtake on his rival.
