Conceived in the late 1970s as a return to the ‘good old days’ when both amateur and factory teams could run the same production-based cars in championship events, the Group B classification revolutionised the world of rally, arguably increasing it’s popularity to rival that of Formula One during its short lived stint in the 1980s.

Incredibly the cars produced during this golden era of rallying are still idolised to this day and one of such cars is the famed Lancia Delta S4.

The iconic 4WD turbocharged monster was introduced in 1985 to replace the 2WD mid-engined Lancia 037 which had succesfully taken on the mighty Audi Sport Quattro S1 two years prior.

In the hands of Henri Toivonen, Miki Biasion and Marku Alén, the S4 won four of the twelve World Rally Championship events that it was entered in and claimed a podium finish in all but two.
